Woman With Migraines More Predisposed To To Suffer From Depression

People with chronic headache, especially migraine disorder, are in a greater number predisposed to suffer from depression disorder, feel weary, and have a host of other strict physical symptoms, according to a clinical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical study involved 1300 patient who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in three countries. Of the man surveyed, 116 reported occasional headache (less than 15 headaches monthly) and 413 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patient were diagnosed with migraines.

The clinical study found patients with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more prone to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among patients tested with severely disabling migraine, the clinical investigation found the likelihood of major Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms should stir up or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in patient with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax online and Depression could heighten pain perception,” said clinical investigation author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This link between migraine and major Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical research are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Major Depression can be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Indifferent of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Atypical Depression, psychiatric disease such as Major Depression complicates headache management and can provoke poorer results for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The study was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which values 18 million American woman are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to making better patients care through enlightenment and clinical investigation. A neurologist is a health care provider with a wide knowladge of diagnosing, curing and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and frequent sclerosis.
